Call for Submissions

The Alberta Society of Artists is programming 5 two week exhibitions at Walterdale Playhouse during the 2010 – 2011 season starting fall of 2010. The exhibitions are featured in the lobby area of this historic Edmonton theatre located at 10322 83 Avenue. The space is suited for two-dimensional artwork that can be hung on wires from hanging rods. (A security system is in place for all art shows.) The lobby space can accommodate about twenty art pieces. As this space is suitable for art sales, no artist fees will be paid. A small commission of 20% will be divided between Walterdale Theatre Associates and the Alberta Society of Artists on all sales.

Walterdale Playhouse produces a special Artists’ Night complete with the featured play and art show. During this evening, the artist(s) are encouraged to invite guests to view the art show and to fill the auditorium for the evening’s performance. The artist(s) will be expected to man the exhibition between 9:00am and 3:00pm on the two Saturdays during the run of the show and are also encouraged to provide some art demonstrations, when appropriate. The artist(s) will also be expected to assist in the hanging and dismantling of their art show.

The gallery will be open during all performances that the theatre operates as well as the two Saturdays during the day to take advantage of the traffic from the Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market, next door, and from Whyte Avenue. Alberta artists and groups of artists are invited to submit exhibition proposals and up to 20 images of artworks (representative examples of the type of artwork for the proposed exhibition). Works to be included in the exhibition can include any 2-D medium with dimensions no larger than 48” in any direction. (Preference will be given to small Group Art Shows). Solo applicants may be asked to show with another artist.

a) JPEG files only with a resolution of 72 dpi (dots per inch). Maximum size of 1024 x 768 pixel files. Label each image with your last name followed by number of image (example: adams01.jpg, adams02.jpg and adams03.jpg)

c) Artist Resume(s) (maximum: 3 pages)
d) Artist Statement(s) (maximum: 1 page)
2) BY MAIL: CD / DVD Submissions — Same contents as noted above — Sent to: The Alberta Society of Artists, PO Box 11334, STN MAIN, Edmonton, AB T5J 3K6

JURY RESULTS EMAILED: June 21st, 2010
