2010-2011 Season
Walterdale Playhouse’s Artistic Director, Kristen M. Finlay, has announced the 52nd Season of outstanding community theatre in Edmonton entitled Made in CANADA.
Perfect Pie
By Judith Thompson
Directed by Mary Jane Kreisel
On Stage: October 6-16, 2010
Patsy sends a tape and a pie to Francesca, out of the blue, after almost 30 years, and invites her to visit, if she is ever passing through. Haunted by their shared past and memories of their friendship, Francesca turns up on her way to a film premiere. The two have an uneasy reunion, but as they catch up with each other over comfort food, they revisit their past, their friendship, and the tragic event that separated them.
Canadian playwright Judith Thompson has twice been awarded the Governor General’s Award for Drama, in addition to many other awards, including the Order of Canada.
Much Ado About Nothing
By William Shakespeare
Directed by Anne Marie Szucs
On Stage: December 1-11, 2010
Auditions: August 29 & 30, 2010
BEATRICE
A dear happiness to women: they would else have
been troubled with a pernicious suitor. I thank God
and my cold blood, I am of your humour for that: I
had rather hear my dog bark at a crow than a man
swear he loves me.
BENEDICK
God keep your ladyship still in that mind! so some
gentleman or other shall ’scape a predestinate
scratched face.
Young lovers, Hero and Claudio, are quick to rush into marriage. There is no such hurry for seasoned singles Beatrice and Benedick, whose scorn for love and penchant for verbal sparring provoke their scheming friends to plot a happy ending.
Rabbit Hole
By David Lindsay-Abaire
Directed by Kristen M. Finlay
On Stage: February 9-19, 2011
Auditions: October 10 & 11, 2010
Becca and Howie had the perfect life — a great marriage, a beautiful house, and a lovely son. But after a tragic accident, the couple faces the challenges of surviving their loss and making a life with the family that remains. A heartbreaking yet ultimately hopeful look at how one couple deals with the worst thing they could ever imagine.
The Tony nominated Rabbit Hole won the 2007 Pulizter Prize for Drama. Walterdale’s production is its Edmonton premiere.
The Threepenny Opera
Book & Lyrics by Bertolt Brech
Music by Kurt Weill
English Adaptation by Marc Blitzstein
Directed by Curtis Knecht
Music Direction by Sally Hunt
On Stage: April 6-16, 2011
Auditions: December 5 & 6, 2010
“Oh, the shark has pretty teeth, dear,
And it shows them pearly white.
Just a jackknife has Macheath, babe,
And it keeps it out of sight.
When that shark bites with his teeth, dear,
Scarlet billows start to spread.
Fancy gloves, though, wears old Macheath, dear,
So there’s not a trace of red.”
This musical comedy takes you on a mischievous romp through nefarious back streets as Mack the Knife takes on the evil father of his true love, Polly Peachum.
The Threepenny Opera is presented through special arrangement with R & H Theatricals.
From Cradle to Stage: An Evening of One-Acts
Two New Works by Local Playwrights
On Stage: May 18-28, 2011
Auditions: February 13 & 14, 2011
Walterdale continues to support the development and production of new works by local emerging playwrights. Scripts are submitted in the fall and the playwrights work with professional dramaturges before their works are handed over to our directors for casting and interpretation.
If you are interested in submitting a One-Act play, please contact Kristen M. Finlay, Artistic Director, at adwalterdale2009@yahoo.ca.
Village of Idiots
By John Lazarus
Directed by Linette Smith
On Stage: July 6-16, 2011
Auditions: April 10 & 11, 2011
Things don’t seem quite right in the village of Chelm or so outsider Yosef thinks. Miriam tells him to wait and see, for true wisdom is not easily measured. Village of Idiots is a silly, sweet and hilarious play that teaches audiences of all ages that in this crazy and unjust world, it is sometimes better to be a fool than a wise man.
This Canadian piece, which is suitable for audiences of all ages, has never been performed before at Walterdale Playhouse.

Hi Clyde,
You likely won’t be able to sign up for auditions for 3 Penny until the sometime in new year.
Oops, that should be probably just after Thanksgiving, Clyde.
Has the casting for the first play, Perfect Pie by Judith Thompson, been completed?
Thank you.
